Gothic Horror Illustrations By Tatsuya Morino
Pink Tentacle has posted a gallery of illustrations from the book Kaibutsu Genso Gashu by artist Tatsuya Morino. He has drawn some gothic literature monsters like Frankenstein’s Monster and Dracula and from such authors as H.G Wells and Edgar Allen Poe.
Toy Story 3 Blu-Ray
Toy Story 3 arrives on DVD/Blu-ray in a couple of days. Pixar has never disappointed me with any movie or short they have made and the streak obviously continues with TS3. I’ve got my copy ordered on Amazon. Get yours as well!
New Fleischer Studios Website
Max Fleischer was a pioneer in the art of animation although it seems some of the rights to his animations have been lost over the years such as the Superman series (which was pretty amazing and used rotoscoping technology which Max helped pioneer). Max’s grandson, Mark Fleischer, an entertainment executive and attorney, serves as Chairman and CEO of Fleischer Studios and has helped set up this website which showcases the remaining characters they own the rights too.
MAX FLEISCHER, founder of Fleischer Studios, was a major pioneer in both the creative and technical development of animated films. Among the many characters he was responsible for creating are the beloved “Queen of cartoons,” BETTY BOOP, and KO-KO THE CLOWN, star of the OUT OF THE INKWELL series.
Roma vs Lecce: The Mirko Show
Finally, a great game from Roma! Mirko looks as though he is starting to get back into form. He had five great chances and converted one but was all over the field and showing his speed. He needs to get is crazy, firey self back. I always thought he plays best when he gets the crazy look in his eyes. He’s either going score or stab someone.
The ref absolutely sucked this game but what’s new… Totti gets tripped up behind the play and then gets red carded so now will miss the derby next weekend against Lazio. Fucking ref… but it was good to see some fire in the players, especially Totti who had to be restrained when going off the field. Totti hasn’t been himself this season and hopefully this helps him out.
We are getting some of our injured players back like Sergio, DDR and Menez so things are looking up against Lazio. Boriello played another great game. I am liking this guy more and more. Until next weekend…
Forza Roma!
Captain America Movie Pictures
Here are some awesome first pictures from Entertaintment Weekly of Chris Evans as Captain America via Comicbookmovie.com through Iconoclastic.ca… hahaha… anyway, I’m really looking forward to this and the Thor movie (although I worry about the cheese potential in the Thor movie).
I think Chris will make a great Cap and I am glad to see they used some of the old school googles and kite shield from WWII Cap. Man, the Avengers movie is going to be so awesome.
Appleseed XIII Direct to Video Episodes
This latest adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s Appleseed manga will be composed of 13 22-minute direct-to-video anime episodes, plus two feature-length compilation films of the episodes. I am really looking forward to this series as Appleseed was one of the first anime movies I saw (along with Akira, Robotech, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind).
Following a world war that killed half the world’s population, the city-nation of Olympus stands as a beacon of hope in a world of chaos and conflict. The utopian metropolis is governed by Gaia, a vast artificial intelligence, and administered by a genetically engineered humanoids known as Bioroids.
Although Olympus seems like a peaceful city on the surface, racial (human vs. bioroids vs. cyborgs), religious, and political conflicts lurk underneath — threatening to overturn the delicately balanced “peace.” Security threats such as terrorists and anti-government criminals abound, so the use of force becomes a necessary evil even in this so-called “utopia.”
Deunan, a young female warrior, and Briareos, a veteran cyborg-soldier, are both partners and lovers, as well as members of ES.W.A.T., the elite special forces serving Olympus. They are deployed wherever trouble strikes.
Conspiracy, terrorism, deadly military weapons technology, greedy corporations, and power-hungry politicians — these are just some of the threats that Deunan and Briareos must contend with as they fight to protect Olympus and save mankind from plunging into another war.

Odosketch, The Digital Canvas
Odopod, a digital agency, came up with a great “digital canvas” using flash called Odosketch. I know this app has been around for a while (2005 I believe) but it’s definitely worth reminding people it’s outo there. Not only can you sketch and save your drawings but it also plays them back like an animation. Since Odopod launched the site, they have had over 100,000 sketches saved.
“Odosketch seeks to recreate the decidedly non-digital experience of working with a sketchbook. Its papery textures, variety of brushes and intentional imperfections make you forget you’re working on a screen.
We also added a playback feature that recreates a drawing from empty canvas to the completed piece animating the drawer’s brush strokes (complete with erasures, cross-outs and do overs) and revealing the creative process at work.”
Check out the application and have hours of fun (but don’t try it at work, it could be dangerously addictive).
The Joker and Lex Luthor as Calvin and Hobbes
If you are a fan of either Batman, Azzarello, Bermejo, Calvin and Hobbes or all of them, then you will absolutely love this tribute to Calvin and Hobbes starring Lex Luthor and the Joker. Azzarello and Bermejo have made a great tribute to Bill Watterson.
THE AVENGERS by Francesco Francavilla
One of my favourite artist just did a killer rendition of Marvel’s The Avengers as a What If for Comic Twart. I am a big fan of “historical revisionary tales” so I drool over this kind of stuff. I remember loving 1602 and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (I really wish they would stop making movies of Alan Moore’s work, it’s getting really annoying… although, I will admit to sort of liking The Watchmen movie and maybe a bit of V for Vendetta).
“I give you, for the first time I think, Hulk the Druid (a Celtic primeval force of nature), Captain Amerigo (from the New World), Thor himself, and an unknown mysterious clad-armored gladiator known as Iron Man . Together they are The AVENGERS, EARTH’s FIRST HEROES and they fight evils and undead armies.”
If you find this piece amazing, you really need to check out Francesco’s website so you can get kicked in the face by his talent!
Autodesk Homestyler: Design Your Dream Home
Autodesk, the company behind software such as Maya and 3D Studio Max, has one of the coolest websites I have seen in a while called Homestyler. It’s basically home design software that lets you build interior design plans with drag and drop, brand name products, and 3D views.
You can then share your designs on social sites like Facebook and Twitter or print out the designs, including dimensions, to bring with you when you meet with vendors and contractors. There are a ton of options available and it is surprisingly very flexible in what you can do for something that is a) free and b) online.
The other thing that should be noted is that this site represents the proper use of Adobe Flash. Something useful, not something that interrupts the user experience like most websites that use Flash.
Time to build myself a dream home.
