Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie is shaping up to be an interesting mix of “Ewwwww!’s” as well as “Awwwww’s.”

His latest stop-motion gothic-fest (rendered in 1950s-style black-and-white as well as 3-D) tells the story of a little boy named Victor, who loves his pet dog Sparky more than anything in the world. Naturally — or rather, unnaturally — Victor decides to use his science kit to bring the pup back from the grave after an accident claims the pooch’s life.

As with Mary Shelley’s original 1818 tale of men playing god and science run amok, pandemonium follows the creation of the “monster,” who in this case is just a stitched-up, resurrected undead buddy.

Many know that Burton lost his job as an artist at The Walt Disney Co. for making this dark comedy as a live-action short in 1984, but few know the true story from Burton’s past that inspired it. As Halloween approaches, EW reveals that long-ago tale, along with first-look stills from the movie.

Well, I think I am looking very forward to this movie!

My hat is off to you Mr. Woodward! There is also a nice making-of piece here and there will be a DVD release of the animation with a full length making-of in the near future. And to think, this was done in his spare time… people need to stop complaining that they have no spare time!

The drawing style and organic feel of this piece is what does it for me. The choice of music is just the icing on the cake. See for yourselves!

The animation style look very appealing to me. Almost like Disney tried to get the style of the computer animation to mimic the style of their traditional animation.

Once again though, I have the feeling that making this movie 3D is another waste of time. Who actually likes wearing those glasses and how many movies have you watched in 3D where it actually made a difference? I’ve seen one… Avatar.

I’m looking forward to the day 3D dies… although when that day comes, it would mean I’ll have to deal with it 20 years from now as it makes it’s way back… mid 50s, 80s, late 2000s and next stop, 2030s…

Therefore, I am really excited that Disney released the new trailer for the Winnie the Pooh movie coming out next summer. When I first heard about it, I was really worried it would be made into a computer animation or 3D movie but it seems as though they stayed very true to the original animations.

I remember watching Winnie the Pooh over and over when I was a little kid and since I have a little one on the way, it’s going to be really exciting to sit and watch these timeless classics with her!

Motion comics really are starting to gain a special place in my heart.

I really enjoyed The Watchmen motion comic and I hope we get more in the future. I think it adds a nice twist to the comic genre (and we all know the comic industry needs all the help it can get these days).

Marvel has a whole site for their motion comics which everyone should check out. There is also some cool video of Batman Motion comics here.

Main titles for Frank Darabont’s television adaptation of THE WALKING DEAD, animated using artwork ripped from the pages of Robert Kirkman’s celebrated comic book series.

I personally like this fan-made intro a lot more than the actual AMC one (not that the AMC one is bad). Either way, Daniel did an amazing job with this so check out Ex Mortis Films for other work he has done. If you are interested in the process of making the intro sequence, one of my favourite websites, The Art of the Title Sequence, has a great production breakdown.

Tezuka is best known for creating Mighty Atom (Astro Boy), Jungle Emperor (Kimba the White Lion), Hi no Tori(Phoenix), Metropolis, and dozens of other influential manga classics.”

There were 75 handwritten notebooks discovered after his passing and the pages contain “early story concepts, dialogue drafts, and preliminary sketches for Mighty Atom, Jungle Emperor, Metropolis, Kurubeki Sekai (Nextworld), and other stories from around 1948 to 1959.” The material was put on paper by Tezuka between 1948 and 1959 and Shogakukan Creative will publish ten of Tezuka’s notebooks on December 24th of this year.

I know I am a geek but I was really exited when I went to Japan and was able to visit the Astro Boy museum in Kyoto. So for me and many others, these books are exciting news indeed and hopefully they will gain distribution outside of Japan so the rest of the world can enjoy Tezuka’s genius.
