Toronto Draws Tintin

The Beguiling Books & Art and Steamwhistle Brewery are teaming to produce one of the most interesting art shows of the fall, TORONTO DRAWS TINTIN. Featuring the work of dozens of comics artists and illustrators from Toronto, Canada, this event is a celebration of all things Tintin and his creator Hergé, and will feature dozens of pieces of original artwork. First, join French creator Stanislas as he travels from Paris to Toronto for the official English-language launch of The Adventures of Herge, the graphic novel biography of the Tintin creator from Drawn & Quarterly. Thought of You Animation

Ryan Woodward has really impressed me, and a lot of other people based on the feedback from this amazing and emotionally charged animation. My hat is off to you Mr. Woodward! There is also a nice making-of piece here and there will be a DVD release of the animation with a full length making-of in the near future. And to think, this was done in his spare time… people need to stop complaining that they have no spare time!

The drawing style and organic feel of this piece is what does it for me. The choice of music is just the icing on the cake. See for yourselves!

David Lynch’s SPIDER-MAN

Warren Ellis, comics writer of such things as Transmetropolitan, challenged the members of his Whitechapel community to design posters for a David Lynch film called “Spider-Man.” As Warren said, “You must design a poster for a movie called SPIDER-MAN directed by David Lynch. This is all you know. “ Check out the results! I may actually want to see some of these movies made.

Cthulhu Mythos, As Imagined By Kids

What do you get when you mix H.P. Lovecraft‘s Cthulhu Mythos and about 16 kids ranging from 8-18 years of age? Pure awesomeness of the artistic kind… and potential nightmares for the next few weeks.

David Milano “…put on some creepy Lovecraft inspired music and over the course of about and hour I told them synopsis versions of three of Lovecraft’s tales (The Shadow Out of Time, At the Mountains of Madness, The Call of Cthulhu) getting quickly through the set up and on to the descriptions of the monsters.”

Check out the galleries of the drawings below and David’s blog for more information.

Glen Keane on discovering the beauty in The Beast

“He’s presently one of Disney’s top character designers and animators. In a way, he’s the daddy of Ariel, Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Tarzan, John Silver and Rapunzel, among others. He’s an artist and a mentor. He’s Glen Keane.”

That’s the intro to a round table discussion on the site, Animated Views, with Glen Keane. If you have any interest at all in animation, then you must read Glen’s take on his experience in bringing to life one of the most beloved Disney characters… The Beast from Beauty and The Beast.
