Appleseed XIII Direct to Video Episodes
This latest adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s Appleseed manga will be composed of 13 22-minute direct-to-video anime episodes, plus two feature-length compilation films of the episodes. I am really looking forward to this series as Appleseed was one of the first anime movies I saw (along with Akira, Robotech, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind).
Following a world war that killed half the world’s population, the city-nation of Olympus stands as a beacon of hope in a world of chaos and conflict. The utopian metropolis is governed by Gaia, a vast artificial intelligence, and administered by a genetically engineered humanoids known as Bioroids.
Although Olympus seems like a peaceful city on the surface, racial (human vs. bioroids vs. cyborgs), religious, and political conflicts lurk underneath — threatening to overturn the delicately balanced “peace.” Security threats such as terrorists and anti-government criminals abound, so the use of force becomes a necessary evil even in this so-called “utopia.”
Deunan, a young female warrior, and Briareos, a veteran cyborg-soldier, are both partners and lovers, as well as members of ES.W.A.T., the elite special forces serving Olympus. They are deployed wherever trouble strikes.
Conspiracy, terrorism, deadly military weapons technology, greedy corporations, and power-hungry politicians — these are just some of the threats that Deunan and Briareos must contend with as they fight to protect Olympus and save mankind from plunging into another war.

The Walking Dead Comic Each Week in 2011
Straight from Image Comics: “Are you excited about THE WALKING DEAD on AMC, but you’ve never had the chance to read the hit comic book series that inspired it? Starting in January 2011, Image Comics will be reprinting the single issues of the hit series — shipping one issue per week all year long!”
I have been reading the series in anticipation of the new AMC The Walking Dead tv show which starts Oct 31st. I have been really enjoying the comic (who wouldn’t enjoy a good zombie story). It will be interesting to see hope well they develop the characters and how closely they stick to the actual comic. The fact that the comic is in black and white really adds a lot to the tension of the story. Let’s just say I am excited but Sunday nights are getting pretty crowded on tv now. Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, Bored To Death and now The Walking Dead.
Creator of TV Cartoon Rocky and Bullwinkle Dies
Pioneering TV cartoon artist Alexander Anderson Jr., who created Rocky the flying squirrel and Bullwinkle the moose, has died. He was 90. He also created the character Dudley Do-Right which all Canadians could associate with.
I remember watching these cartoons as a little kid and always laughing my ass off. You will be missed!
Boardwalk Empire
Boardwalk Empire is HBO’s latest series and they went all out. Getting Martin Scorsese to direct the pilot (which is estimated at 18 million while the whole production at about $65 million), is in my opinion, a warning to Hollywood. Television definitely seems like it’s the place for more interesting entertainment these days. Creator Terence Winter, whom we all know from the little known series The Sopranos, has another hit.
Boardwalk Empire chronicles the life of Nucky Thompson, the undisputed ruler and “boss” of Atlantic City at the start of prohibition. I’m a sucker for the 1920s and 1930s. The costume design is amazing and the sets feel very real (65 million put to good use) but the key to the show is the brilliant acting, especially from Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt. I love the history behind the show so if anyone is interested, the show was adapted from a book by Nelson Johnson called Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City.
With 5 episodes left in the first season, Nucky is bound to take us for a ride towards the season finale!
